What to do when Tithing and Giving are not working for you

Have you ever wondered why tithing and giving work for other people but they never work for you?
When talking about tithing and giving this verse is one that you hear often:
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
Luke 6:38
I remember years back seeing this bible verse work for so many people but for some reason it never worked for me.
I was faithful so many times with my tithes and offerings yet nothing ever happened so, I got discouraged and stop tithing all together.
That was until God helped me see what I was doing wrong.
If The Word of God is not working for you, the problem is never on God’s part. The problem will always be on your part.
So, you need to examine yourself and see what you are doing that is keeping the promises of God from being fulfilled in your life.

Reasons why tithing and giving are not working for you
The wrong reasons
Have you ever thought of the reasons behind your giving? Are you doing it because you know that if you give you will receive?
Are you giving because that is what you are used to doing or because you want people to know that you give?
There are only 2 reasons for us to give, the first one is love and the other is obedience.
God has commanded us to give the 10% of our first fruits, so we do this #1 because we love Him and #2 because we want to be obedient to His word.
When we give to our church, when we donate money to charity, when we give to people that need our help we should be doing all this out of love only.
Giving with the wrong heart
In 1 Corinthians 13, we can see that as Christians we can do many wonderful things and still do them with the wrong heart.
Personally, I have given before because I have felt obligated to do so, not because I wanted to.
This is the wrong way to give, we don’t give to get or because we are obligated to do so. We give out of love and out of obedience.
Lack of Faith
The kingdom of God is based on seed time and harvest and even though we do not give to get, every time we give we plant a seed. This seed will eventually grow up and give much fruit. This is a spiritual law.
Just like we expect to eat apples in the future from the apple seeds we planted, we should also expect to see a harvest from all the seeds we have planted with our giving.
When we expect to receive from God we are using our faith. We should expect to see God’s promises fulfilled in our lives. Because without faith it is impossible to please God. A lack of expectancy is a lack of faith.
Pulling your seeds out
One day a little boy was very happy because they planted beans at his school.
He was so excited to see his plant growing that each morning he would take the seed out of the dirt to see how much it has grown.
After several days everybody’s plant grew except for his. He didn’t have the patience to leave the seed in the ground and let nature run its course.
This is what happen to many of us. We sow the seed and we want to see the harvest right away, we don’t want to wait on God’s timing.
Sometimes we pull the seeds out, with the words of our mouth and the lack of faith. Every time you say “this doesn’t work for me” you are pulling your seeds out.
Remember, it’s SEED-TIME & HARVEST, you need to have a seed, you need to give it time in order to have your harvest. Don’t pull your seeds out!
Wrong Confession
The Word of God is simple when it says in Mark 11:23: You will have whatever you say or confess.
If you confess that tithing and giving does not work for you then that is what you will get.
If you confess that you are always broke, then that is what you will get.
Choose to always speak life over yourself and over the seeds you plant and over your finances.
Instead of saying how broke you are, use your faith and your words to create your future. Here are a few examples:
Lord, I thank you that you have blessed the work of my hands.
Everything I put my hands to prospers.
The blessing of the Lord makes me truly rich and it adds no sorrow with it.
There is never any lack in my home because The Lord provides for all my needs according to His riches in glory.
I sow in good ground and my seeds bear much fruit.

What to do to get your tithing and giving working for you
Know who you are and who God is
Knowing who God is can help you to truly trust God with your finances.
He is not only the creator of all things, He owns everything, He is the king of kings and you, yes you are His baby!
Your Daddy God wants the best for you, He wants to provide for you and He will always take care of you. You never have to worry because He knows what you have need of. He will always make a way.
Walk in love
God is love and if we don’t have love we don’t have God. But since we are children of God, the love of God has been shed in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.
Do not let your lack of love be a hindrance to your financial blessing. The love of God is in you, you can choose to walk in love all the time.
If you want to know more about walking in love, Kenneth Hagin has a little booklet called “How to walk in love” and you can get it here. I have found this book to be extremely helpful.
Unforgiveness
This one goes hand in hand with walking in love. You can’t walk in love if there is unforgiveness in your heart and you can’t forgive if you don’t choose to love instead.
Check your heart
Give your tithes because you love God so much that you just want to be obedient to His word.
Give because you want to be a blessing to others. Give because it is more blessed to give than to receive. Give because it is a great way to show people the love of God. Always do it with the right heart and for the right reasons.
Robert Morris has a wonderful book that will help you in this area, it’s called “The blessed life: unlocking the rewards of generous living”
Build your faith
Study the Bible and listen to sermons that will help you grow your faith in this area. Here are some awesome testimonies that can help you to strengthen you faith.
I found a great series on YouTube called “Calling in Your Harvest” by Pastor Jerry Savelle. This series will really bless you, if you click on the link it will open on a new window for you to watch later.
Write down God’s promises for your life in this area and start believing that all these promises are going to come true in your life. God is faithful to His promises and they will come to pass.
Trust in Him, in His timing and in His Word.
Water your seeds
You water your seeds with your faith, with your prayers and with the words you speak.
Watch your mouth
We all go through hard times in life. We don’t deny the fact that we may be going through a difficult situation. But instead of focusing on our circumstances we are going to focus on what the Word of God says.
Just like our Daddy created the worlds with the words of His mouth, we are also going to create our future with the words of our mouths, by saying the Words that came out of His mouth.
Watch what you are confessing over your seeds and over your finances.
God’s creative power is a book by Charles Capps that helped me a lot to understand the power of our words and to change my confession.
Expect to see miracles
Peter once caught a fish and inside his mouth was a gold coin, enough to pay for his taxes and Jesus’.
Our Daddy is a God that does above and beyond everything we can ask or think. Dare to believe in His supernatural favor over your life, dare to believe in your supernatural harvest!
Your tithing and giving are opening up the windows of heaven on your behalf! Expect your harvest, expect your blessing!
Do not grow weary (tired)
The kingdom life is not for people that give up easily. We have to keep pushing forward. We have to believe until we see the promise come to pass.
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
Galatians 6:9
If you don’t give up, if you don’t cave in, you will reap what you have sown with your tithing and giving! Keep your eyes on Jesus and seek first the kingdom of God and everything else will be added on to you.

This was an encouraging and insightful post! I love your point that the only two reasons to give are for love and for obedience. Amen!
Thank you!
Tithing and giving is a very important topic and still stirrs confusion among the believers. You are going to the heart of the issue – which is, no surpise, the human heart and our motivation and desires! Thank you for this great post!
Yes, giving is very important.
I love how you write about our faith and finances! Yes when our hearts aren’t in the right place our giving is meaningless and our seeds don’t grow. Thanks for writing on this topics!
Amen
Love this post on when tithing and giving aren’t working. It’s so true that we are the ones who have somehow faltered. And then we go and question God, like we have the right.
Thank you for posting this. It found its way to me (due to God’s grace, I’m sure) and was an excellent reminder to stay faithful and keep tithing no matter what.
I am so glad that you found this helpful!
This is a very good article!! I love reading other articles encouraging people to tithe and give to the Kingdom of God. It truly is an act of love.
I love The Blessed Life book!! We’ve had it for years and read it often.

Thank you so much. I believe tithing and giving is part of who we are as children of God.
