Love, The Most Important Fruit of The Spirit

Love, The Most Important Fruit of The Spirit

Last spring I notice that a weird vine was growing behind our backyard. The leaves were big and bright green and it ran from our backyard to our neighbors.

We had no idea what kind of plant it was. We googled it, we asked our neighbors and nobody knew anything about that vine.

Then one day, I discovered underneath all the leaves the fruit of the vine. It was passion fruit!!! How in the world did it make it to my backyard? I don’t know but there it was.

Just like I was able to tell which plant it was by the fruit it produced, the same rule applies to us.

In Matthew 7:16 Jesus tells us that we will recognize a person by the fruit they produce. As children of God, we need to be producing the fruits of The Spirit of God.

The fruits of The Spirit are:
love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness and self-control.

Love is the most important fruit of The Spirit.

Why is love the most important fruit of The Spirit?

Every single one of the fruits is important, but what makes love the most important fruit is:

Without Love, you can’t have any other fruit.

All the other fruits operate from love. You can’t have kindness or faithfulness if you don’t have love.

Love is the most important fruit because if you don’t have love, then you don’t have God because God is love and love is God.

And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love; and he that dwells in love dwells in God, and God in him.

1 John 4:16
