How to renew your mind in 4 easy steps

Do you know what is the difference between a baby Christian and a mature Christian?
The difference is a renewed mind.
There are people that have been Christians for many years, yet they are still baby Christians. There is nothing wrong with being a baby Christian when you are new to the things of God. But God needs you to grow up and mature in order to fulfill His will for your life.
In this post, I will teach you how to renew your mind, which is foundational in your spiritual maturity.

Why do we need to renew our minds?
There are several reasons why you need to renew your mind, here are just a few:
- Renewing your mind with the Word of God will strengthen your spirit.
- You need a renewed mind to fulfill God’s will for your life.
- It will make you faith strong.
- You will learn to think how God thinks and speak how God speaks.
- You can help baby Christians mature.
- It will help you keep your eyes on Jesus in the middle of the storms.
What does the Bible say about renewing/changing your mind?
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:2
What is the meaning of Romans 12:2?
God doesn’t want you to think like the world thinks. His word is life and health, full of promises, abundance, healing, and deliverance. This is the life He wants for you. He wants you to change the way you think so you can access everything He has for you.
His word is the key to overcome the devil and to live a successful life. He wants to teach you through His word how to deal with life and everything in it. By replacing the old way of thinking with the Word of God, you will be more like your Heavenly Father.
What does renewing of your mind mean?
Renew means to replace. So, renewing your mind means replacing the old way of thinking with a new way.
So, when you hear renew your mind by the washing of the word or renew your mind with the word of God it means to replace the old way of thinking with what the Bible says.

Steps to renew your mind
1. Study and apply the Word of God
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Joshua 1:8
The Bible is God’s manual for us. It is a guide that will help us be successful in this world if we follow it. So in order to know what the guide says, we need to study it.
Going to church on Sunday is not enough. You have to study the word of God every single day, meditate on it and do everything it says.
Little by little the word of God will start transforming the way you think and the way you think will transform the way you act. This renewing of your mind will make your way prosperous and you will have great success just like Joshua 1:8 says.
Here are a few ways that you can study the word:
- Read a passage of the Bible and write down in a notebook what The Holy Spirit puts in your heart about it.
- Meditate on the word. You can use your imagination to bring the stories to life. You can think about what God is saying to you through His word.
- Memorize it. Try to memorize one Bible verse per week.
- Write it down.
- Speak the word of God out loud.
- Listen to Bible teachers and study the word while you learn with them.
- Do Bible studies.
Remember, it is important that you study the word of God every day. Let it tell you how to think, how to speak, and how to act. Pray and ask The Holy Spirit to give you a revelation of His word, He is your helper.
2. Control your thoughts
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:5
Many people think they do not have control over their thoughts. Well, the Bible clearly states here that we can take captive or dismiss any thoughts that don’t align with the word of God.
You are in control; you can choose your thoughts. When something pops in your head and you know that you shouldn’t be thinking about that, you can replace that thought with a different one. The bible calls it casting down imaginations.
Your mind is powerful and you need to learn to control it and not let it control you. The way that you control it is by staying away from thoughts that are not a blessing to you and instead meditate on the word of God.
When we hear bad news, our first thoughts are usually worst-case scenarios. But when we renew our mind, those thoughts are automatically replaced by the word of God and His promises.
Your thoughts can get you in trouble. Go to the word of God instead and make His words your thoughts and cast down any other thought that goes against the will of God.

3. Be careful with what you are feeding your mind
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
Romans 8:5-6
What are you feeding your mind?
Do you watch shows that feed fear and unbelief? Do you listen to music that is not a blessing to your life?
Do you read books that bring thoughts into your mind that do not align with the word of God?
Do you call yourself a Christian but your mind is of the world?
Everything you listen to and everything you watch feeds your mind. So, if you are feeding your mind the wrong kind of food, you will stay stuck with an unrenewed mind.
Remember, renewing means to replace. So you need to replace the old habits, the old shows, the old music, the old tv shows, etc.
It’s hard, I know, but if you want to experience God and everything He has for you, you must be willing to give up the things that are keeping you from going deeper in your relationship with God.
If you want to renew your mind, you need to feed yourself with the right kind of food. Watch shows and listen to things that bring blessings and life.

4. Develop a strong relationship with God
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
James 4:8
Jesus paid an enormous price not only for your sins but also so you can have a relationship with The Father.
The more we spend time with a person the faster we get to know them. The same thing happens with God, the more we spend time with Him, the more we get to know Him, what He likes, how He acts, why He said the things He said, etc.
Nothing will help you to renew your mind more than developing a strong relationship with God, and part of that is to know Him through His word.
Remember, God is looking for a relationship with you, He wants to be part of your life, part of your everyday. Jesus said He will never leave us or forsake us so He is with you all the time. Talk to Him, listen to Him. Get to know Him through His word.
Conclusion
It is God’s will for you to renew your mind. He doesn’t want you to stay stuck with the old way of thinking.
As a new creation in Christ, God wants you to replace the old carnal way of thinking with His word so you can experience everything that He has for you, not only when you get to heaven but here on Earth too.
A mind renewed with the word of God is strong, healthy, wise and empowered to do everything that God has you to do.
