How to know for sure you are going to heaven

How to know for sure you are going to heaven

I was about to leave her room when she grabbed my hand.

The 98 year old lady pulled me close as to tell me a secret that she didn’t want anybody to know.

“I am scared to die” she said, “I don’t know if heaven is real and if it is, I don’t know if I will go there when I die.”

Her words have stayed with me all these years and I wonder, how many people are out there not sure if they are going to heaven when they die.

Just like her, millions of people are afraid of dying, even Christians are afraid of dying.

I can understand why people that are not saved are afraid, but people that are saved should not be afraid of dying.

If you are a Christian and you are afraid of dying, I’m going to show you why you should not be afraid and if you are not a Christian I’m going to show you how you can go to heaven.

What is Heaven?

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.

Revelation 21:4

This is just one of the descriptions of heaven that we find in the Bible. If we continue reading the book of Revelations we also find that there is a city with streets of gold and there is a river of life that flows from God’s throne.

There are also rooms or homes that Jesus is preparing for us (John 14:2). There is no need for light because God Himself is light and we will be able to see His face.

Heaven is a place where we will be with our Daddy God and we will be able to enjoy all the beauty and all the goodness that He has prepared for us.

In heaven there is no cancer, no drugs, no infidelities, no broken hearts. Death is no more, suffering is no more, only happiness, joy, peace, love and life.

Heaven is our happily ever after. Where we are happily reunited as a family, The Father with all His children. Is a glorious place and a glorious moment that we should all look forward to.

There is no need to be afraid of dying. There is a way for you to know for sure that you are going to heaven

Who goes to Heaven?

There are a lot of different beliefs about who goes to heaven.

One of them is that since we are all created by God we are all children of God and we are all going to heaven. This belief is wrong, yes, we were all created by God but not all of us are children of God.

So, not everybody is going to heaven.

Another belief is that if you are a good person you will go to heaven. I am glad you are a good person but that won’t get you into heaven.

There is only one truth and only one way to heaven: Jesus

Heaven is the beautiful dwelling place of those who have trusted Jesus Christ as their Savior. Only those who are saved will go.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 14:6

What do you have to do to go to heaven?

All you have to do to go to heaven is to confess and believe in Jesus, that He is the Son of God that came to pay with his death for all your sins.

(If you want to know more about why Jesus came and the about the gift of salvation go check out this post: How to share the gospel. There you can find the love story of God for you and you can understand better.)

The bible tells us that if you truly believe with your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead you will be saved.

After you have done this, you can be sure that you are going to heaven. Because Jesus is the only way to heaven.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

John 3:16

Prayer to go to heaven

Prayer is not hard, prayer is just a conversation with God. Sometimes we make things more complicated than they really are.

If you are ready for Jesus to come to your life, and for the peace of knowing that you will go to heaven you can find a prayer here.

You never have to fear death again

When you give your life to Jesus your life is forever changed. Not only in this life but for eternity as well.

The day that you close your eyes here for the last time on earth, you will open them in heaven. What a glorious day that will be!!!

How do you know that you are going to heaven when you die?

What a great post and so encouraging. We make salvation such an ordeal when it really is simple! Thank you for being blunt and truthful in a loving way on such a difficult topic.

This is a difficult subject for me. There are a lot of opinions and they have changed over the years according to politics and agendas. I wish there was a way to be sure.

Well, I completely disagree, but respect your opinion. Read Anita Moorjani’s book, “Dying to be me” about her near death experience for a different perspective. She’s been there and back, as have others with similar experiences. I think God is so, so much more than what many religions make God out to be.

Hi, thanks for your comment. To be completely honest with you, to me The Bible, The Word of God is the only truth. If God in His word said that Jesus is The Only Way, The Only Truth and The ONly LIfe, it’s because it is so. I’m curious about the book and I will research it, even though it will never change my mind but I appreciate the recommendation.😊

I appreciate that you broke it down to its simplest form…it is very true that we can make faith so much harder than it should be (yes, even praying!).

I have to be honest. I grew up on this belief, with the cliches. When pastors started abusing their privileges and burned my husband and me repeatedly (we were headed for ministry), when a relative of mine came out as gay and was judged and ridiculed by the church, when I saw greater kindness, love and acceptance from those who were not fundamentalists….I began to wonder if I had been taught correctly. My faith in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit – that has never wavered. I’ve seen too much of God intricately involved in my life’s events….but people have tainted my belief that what man was teaching me is 100% correct. I believe that Jesus is a critical aspect of salvation, but saying the words, “I believe” is not enough. Demonstrate it…..especially if you want people to believe it. I also don’t believe that I have any authority to tell people that what they have been taught or believed their whole life is wrong.

I agree with you, just saying the words “I believe” is not enough. When we accept Jesus as our savior, is something we do with our whole heart. I am sorry for what happened to you and your husband. I always teach my kids that we have to love everybody because God loves us all. If a person is gay or not, it is not our job to judge because we all sin. Our job is to love that person no matter what. What they do is between them and God.

Wow! This is a really lovely post for people who believe the way you do. I am a non religious pagan witch, and I disagree with pretty much everything in this post. But, I think it’s awesome for Christians to have such deep faith, and I am happy for anyone who is devoted to living a happy, Christ-like life. Jesus was a pretty cool guy, and his example is a good one to follow. Blessed be.

It’s sad that many churches today teach manipulative messages in order to turn the church into a “profitable business”. We’re taught to love one another, yet many claim to be Christians but are quick to stick their noses up at imperfections. No wonder so many people fear what comes after death. With many, it’s like their hearts know that karma awaits them…

Many people called themselves Christians but they are not. Christians are not perfect because they are human but I completely agree with you, a true Christian is a person that loves everybody because God’s love is in them and God loves everybody.
