How to Develop a Personal Relationship with GodπŸ’—

How to Develop a Personal Relationship with GodπŸ’—

Do you want to develop a personal relationship with God?

How many times have you heard people say:Β  “you need to have a personal relationship with God”. How do you even have a relationship with One whom you cannot see?

I was raised in a Christian home and I went to church all the time, I prayed and read the bible because that’s what good Christians do, right?

I grew up knowing about God, but I never really knew Him. I loved God, but I really didn’t have a relationship with Him. He was my creator and my helper and I knew He listened to my prayers and loved me, but that was it.

For many years I stayed at this stage, but I always knew that there was more. When I heard people talking about having a personal relationship with the Lord, I knew that there was more than what I was experiencing.

But I was comfortable where I was, and I did nothing to change my situation. This is the problem that many of us have today, we are comfortable and afraid to step out of our comfort zone.

Why do we need this relationship with God?

We all know there is something more, a deeper level to our relationship with God. We were created to have a relationship, a friendship with God.

We need to stop being comfortable with the superficial seek Him with all of our heart.

God desires for you to get to know Him better. The more you know Him, the more you love Him and the more you love Him the deeper your relationship will be.

God doesn’t want to be the almighty powerful God that lives in a place millions of light-years from here. He wants to be your friend, that one that is always close to you and will never let you down.

God wants you to experience all that He has for you, He wants you to know His will for your life.Β  But you can only experience that when you know Him.

God wants to be your father, and love you, and keep you, and teach you, and guide you. But to be all that for you, you are going to have to want it. He will do his part, but you are going to have to do yours.

Where to start

When my husband and I first started going out, we would talk on the phone for hours. We were constantly talking to each other, we would go out of our way to see each other.

He would come to my house after working all night just so he could spend some time with me. He made an effort to know me, and why not? I’m awesome! 😜

The best way to get to know someone and to have a relationship with them is to spend time with them. This rule also applies to God. Check out this Bible verse:

And you shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13

To know God and have a relationship with Him, you need to know Him first by spending time with Him. You won’t regret it, I promise He is worth it.

Set it in your mind that no matter what, you will search for Him with all your heart until you are satisfied.

Getting closer to God

How to spend time with The Lord

Talking helps you build a relationship with God

What do you do when you spend time with someone? You talk, right?

This is one of the ways we spend time with God also, we talk.

You don’t have to drop to your knees and raise your handsΒ πŸ™Œ (unless you want to, which is perfectly fine) in order to talk to God.

You can talk to Him anytime, anywhere. You can do it on the inside or you can talk normally. I have long talks with God while driving and running errands.

β€œFor I know the plans that I have for you, says the Lord, plans for peace and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you shall call upon Me, and you shall come and pray to Me and I will listen to you.”

Jeremiah 29:11

The most awesome thing is that God will talk back!!!

God loves to have conversations with us. You doing all the talking is not a conversation. But talking and listening is a conversation. You have to learn to listen if you want to grow in your faith and your relationship with God.

Make sure you are listening to what He has to say. The more you do this, the more you will get used to listening to His voice.

I talk to God about everything and you should too. He is a loving Father and even though He knows everything; He wants to hear it from you. He loves to hear your voice.

Talk to Him while you are getting ready for work, at home, while you make dinner or while working. You can talk to Him all the time, God always listens to our prayers and always answers.

Read the Bible

One of the best ways to know God is to through the bible. The Bible shows us who God is, what He likes, what kind of things He doesn’t like. The Bible is God’s word, you can get to know someone by listening to their words.

By reading the Bible we learn about God’s character, so it is important for us to make time and study the word of God and get to know Him.

Before you read the bible, ask The Holy Spirit to teach you His word in a way that you can understand it. The Holy Spirit makes the Word of God come alive to you. God will speak to you through His word too.

Pay attention to what you are reading, write down what The Lord puts in your heart. Learn Bible verses and be a doer of the word.

Listen to Bible teachers

Another great way to develop a relationship with God is to know Him by the revelation He has given to Bible teachers.

Now, not all the Bible teachers are created equal, πŸ˜‰ so you have to make sure you are getting the word from people that are full of God, people that have a personal relationship with Him, and are not afraid of saying what the bible says.

Two of my favorite bible teachers are Andrew Wommack and you can find his teaching here , and Andy Andrews, and you can find his teachings here.

Praise and worship

When you have a heart of worship for God, you will forget about everything else that is going on around you, and you will focus only on Him.

Imagine that you are face to face with Jesus and say all the things that are in your heart.

Sing beautiful songs to Him, it doesn’t matter if you have a great voice or not, He doesn’t care about that. He cares that you are there, with Him, taking your time to know Him and to love Him.

Praise and worship is not about the music, it’s not about the lights or the great singers, it is not about the cool fog machine.

Praise and worship is about you coming before The Lord and opening up your heart to Him.

Praise and worship is about recognizing who He is, and what He has done for you. It is only between you and Him.

Building your relationship with God (sermon)

I want to encourage you to watch this sermon, it’s called “How to become best friends with God” by Rick Warren. I believe this sermon will bless your life and maybe answer some questions you may have.

Maintain a good relationship with God

Let today be the day that everything changes. Let today be the day that you decide to have a personal relationship with God. God loves you so much and He wants to be part of your life. He doesn’t want to be a routine or a habit.

He wants you to know Him, to be close to you. He wants to be your Father.

Draw close to God, and God will draw close to you.

James 4:8

The stronger your relationship with The Lord is, the stronger you are. Don’t be scared of stepping out of your comfort zone, don’t be ashamed of pursuing God with all your heart, with all your might and all your strength.

Developing a relationship with The Lord will be the greatest blessing you ever experience in your life. Go for it and let nothing hold you back!

If you have a testimony on how your life has changed since having a relationship with God, make sure to write about in the comments. This will encourage other people to do it as well.

I have a testimony of God and that Gods plan is always the best. I know for the longest time I fought and played victim and blamed God but after the storm and when things calmed I look back and I can see his hand in every part of that trial and I try to always remember how it all turned out way better than what I thought it should have been so now when a trial comes I try to remind myself to sit back and see what he is shaping me into.

God is good and He is always there, even when we can’t feel Him. Looking back and remembering what God has done for us in the past will give us confidence that He is with us in the present and will be with us in the future.

God was pretty intentional when He designed us to have relationships here on earth. They are so reflective of how He wants to spend time with us. Parent / Child. Husband / Wife. Friends.

I hope your post can help me develop my relationship with God. Ever since I have stopped going to praise and worship, I have been starting to criticize and complain about everything that I am going through.

We all go through difficult situations, but we must be faithful. I know sometimes is hard when our situations are overwhelming but you can make the decision that it doesn’t matter what happens around you, your relationship with God is your priority. Talk to Him wherever you are, sing even if you are not in church. I’m praying for you!

I am beginning to lose faith in GOD and even doubt HIS existence because am going through some life threatening situations right now, and I have tried to build a relationship with GOD to get answers and maybe help but its difficult for me, or I was thinking maybe I’m too much of a sinner for GOD to speak to me. But seeing your post, I guess I was going about it the wrong way. I will try it out and I pray it will work thanks.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 Jesus said that in this world we will have tribulations but don’t let those tribulations blind you to the fact that God is with you, He is for you and not against you. He loves you and listens to every single one of your prayers. Draw close to God and He will draw close to you, and He will give you the wisdom and the strength to endure and overcome any tribulation.

I had lot’s of ups and downs with God. Allowed doubts undermine my faith and trust in Him. As a result, I drifted away from Him and each time became harder to find my way back to Him. Last year I had to face a serious hardship, and while I was in the grips of the fear of my unbelief, my hart instinctively cried out to the Heavenly Father, as I knew with all my being that only He’s the ONE Who can help me through. Despite my life long struggles, I can attest to with my whole being to His unfailing Love, mercy, faithfulness. Even when I couldn’t recognize Him, God steadfastly stood by me, sustained me and guided through life’s difficulties. While I need to reach that Personal Relationship with Him, once He allowed me to experience it but I drifted away and left His closeness. Now, my heart and soul craves that it could be mine forever πŸ™πŸ˜‡

Hey your words of wisdom explains perfectly what a relationship with God is like. You are an amazing woman. Thank you so much for these inspiring words and thank you God for using her to get such work done. God really does love to speak to you and hear you too. He cares about us so much, and he wants to be best friends with you. It’s not just him being your friend but you being friends with God too. He loves his kids so much.. I remember sometimes when I’m sad and angry and actually hear an inner voice telling me- talk to me about it.. and he sounds so caring like he isnt just saying it. Like it’s a plea, more like “talk to me about it let me help you solve this issue”. God is amazing honestly, no one loves like he does. The best Father in the whole wide world.
